Black History Month Designer Spotlight: Willi Smith

Hi Ladies n’ Gents,

“I don’t design clothes for the Queen, but for the people who wave at her as she goes by,”-Willi Smith

In honor of black history month, I will be posting every Tuesday about a legendary African American person that is or was prevalent in the Beauty n’ Fashion Industry…

Today we are going to focus on the fabulous fashion designer Willi Smith.  On  Feb12, 1948 in Philadelphia a star was born! He founded Williwear in 1976 that specializes in chic n’ comfortable clothing that won’t break the bank…

In 1986 a year before his death he designed the clothing for Spike Lee’s movie  “School Days“. He won prestigious fashion awards like the Coty American Fashion Critic Award for women’s fashion in 1983 and a Cutty Sark Menswear Award in 1985.  He sadly died in 1987 due to AIDS.

Long live Willi Smith, the legendary designer whos’ LINE IS STILL MOVING! I have a few pieces of his that I purchased from TJMAXX (which I believe is sold exclusively) please go n’ support!

*Besos*
